JOB SUMMARY

Installs, repairs, inspects, overhauls, troubleshoots and performs maintenance to power plant equipment and systems. Electrical tasks include but are not limited to repairing and retrofitting electrical motors and distribution transformers, breaker repair, conduit installation, cable installation, maintain control systems, switching procedures in the 345Kv range, along with general plant maintenance activities.

• Complex responsibilities related to primary focus of job area. Uses best practices and in-depth business knowledge to solve complex problems and improve products or services. May adapt procedures, processes and techniques to meet the more complex requirements of position.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• All other duties as assigned.

• Repairs, inspects and maintains turbine/generator and turbine/generator auxiliaries.

• Repairs, inspects and maintains boiler and boiler auxiliaries.

• Operates various industrial equipment (i.e. forklifts).

• Repairs, inspects and maintains coal handling equipment and auxiliaries and plant elevators, if applicable.

• Performs layout work.

• Reads, interprets and maintains revisions on electrical schematics, drawings and prints.

• Performs general craft tasks and uses power and hand tools.

• Performs electrical maintenance activities to power plant electrical systems up to and including 24Kv.

• Act as lead in switching procedure.

• Direct Switchgear Inspections and Maintenance for both Low & Medium Voltages.

• Survey Electrical Job sites, make list of materials, create conduit and cable runs to connect new equipment.

• Troubleshoot, repair, and adjust all limits in Motor Operated Valves.

• Troubleshoot, diagnosis, and make repairs of Plant motors, controls, and Drives.

• Continually seeks process improvements that have value and increases productivity.

• Acquires knowledge and understanding of basic plant principals and processes.

• Mentor Switchman Trainees.

• Perform Generation Maintenance Switching in a Lead role.

• Maintains environmental control systems (i.e. precipitators).

• Works with other craft and plant personnel as required.

• Utilizes SAP/PM module for equipment history and input confirmation text of work performed.

• Complies with all safety and regulatory requirements, both internal and external.

• Programs and maintains programmable logic controllers (PLC) and recorders.

• Operates, sets-up and utilizes various testing equipment (i.e. analog/digital multimeters, VOM/Ammeter, AMP probe, megger, phase rotation meter, breaker and relay test sets, oscilloscope, high voltage tester, low resistance Ohm meter, etc.).

• Maintains and inspects switchgear, station power batteries, transformers, AC/DC motors and controls and plant electrical distribution systems.

• Performs and understands rigging and lifting procedures to access components.

• Troubleshoot valve problems and instruct others on the Safe set up, testing, and operation of MOV’s.

• Assist with Motor Operated Valve wiring and set up.

• Assist with Generator testing and inspections.

• Direct the disassembly and Inspection of connection hardware for the Main Generator, Iso Phase Buss, and Main Power Transformer.

• Assist with Emergency Bearing Oil Pump Test and Yearly Battery Test.

• Assist with Generator Protective Circuit testing (Interlock Checks).

REQUIREMENTS

• Associate's Degree in a technical discipline, And 5 years experience in a technical field; Or

• High School Diploma/GED And 7 years experience in a technical field; Or

• Prior military experience for at least one enlistment as documented on DD Form 214, And 6 years experience in a technical field.

• A certificate of completion from a vocational trade institution in a technical field is equivalent to 1 year of technical experience.

• Experience must include 3 years industrial electrical experience in a power plant or other process controlled environment including oil/gas/chemical refining and/or processing or manufacturing.

WORKING CONDITIONS

• May be required to work at heights up to and exceeding thirty (30) feet, underground and in confined spaces.

• May be exposed to extreme conditions and inclement weather.

• May be required to work non-standard work schedules to include on-call and call-outs.

• May require travel.

• May be required to work overtime and weekends and holidays.

• May work under hazardous conditions where physical danger exists due to mechanical equipment.

• Required to work in a multi-craft crew including Mechanics, Electricians, Insulators, Instrument & Controls Technicians, Helpers and Machinist who work together to support the operations of the plant.

• May be required to cross-train in various crafts and operation departments at various times of the year.

• Knowledge of the safe disassembly and assembly of the Main Generator, Exciter, and all connecting systems.

• Ability to transfer loads or Reserves without power interruptions.

• Knowledge of Generator assembly and disassembly process.

• Able to identify problem areas with Generation equipment.

• Knowledge of the location and function of Protective Relaying for Plant.

• Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and familiarity working with mechanical equipment (e.g., pumps, electric motors, air compressors, valves, welding, fabrication, construction, pipefitting, etc.).

• Up-to-date knowledge of Switching Procedures and current process.

• Assist with Switchman’s Training.

• Administer Switchman’s OJT.

• Demonstrated Computer skills with knowledge of MS Office Suite applications.

• Demonstrated ability to adjust and adapt across varied working conditions and evolving business needs.

• Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of safety requirements and the use of personal protective equipment.
