JOB SUMMARY

As a member of a team, charged with the operations and maintenance of the coal handling system. Operates and maintains heavy motorized equipment and industrial equipment [i.e. forklift]. Responsible for compliance with all local, state and federal transportation regulations and guidelines pertaining to operating heavy equipment. Operates and maintains all equipment associated with fuel supply, ash removals, and combustible dust. Installs, repairs, inspects, overhauls, troubleshoots, and performs maintenance to coal handling equipment and systems. Maintenance tasks include but are not limited to: pipefitting, and welding. Performs mechanical duties with pumps, electric motors, air compressors, valves, welding, fabrication, construction, pipefittings, etc. Monitors and operates the coal handling equipment from the dumper to the tripper. Observes operating parameters of equipment and assures that optimum operating conditions are maintained.

LEVEL OF RESPONSIBILITY

  • Performs responsibilities with standardized processes. Works under general supervision. Resolves routine questions and problems using basic principles of field. Refers the more complex issues to higher levels. Generally follows established procedures to accomplish requirements of job. Some latitude for deviation.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Inspects, cleans, lubricates, services and makes minor adjustments and repairs to equipment as necessary.
  • Repairs, inspects and maintains coal handling equipment and auxiliaries including equipment alignment, pipefitting, welding, uses power and hand tools, and performs general craft tasks.
  • Recognize the hazards, mitigation, and clean up of Combustible Dust.
  • Reads and interprets drawings and prints.
  • Keeps Logs, records data, and verbally communicates area conditions.
  • Works with other craft and plant personnel as require.
  • Utilizes SAP/PM system for equipment history and verification of work performed.
  • Continually seeks process improvement to save cost and increase efficiency.
  • Operates heavy motorized equipment (e.g., cranes, backhoes, bulldozers, conveying systems, trucks and other similar equipment).
  • May fill in as crew lead and/or provide supervision to the crew, as needed.
  • Assists in ongoing development of the team.
  • Monitor, operate and check equipment to ensure normal equipment operations.
  • Identify and take corrective action, including and/or initiating Notifications for equipment repair.
  • Ensures accurate logs, records data, and verbally communicates plant conditions to leadership and team members, as required.
  • Promotes safety through actions and behavior in support of an incident and injury-free environment.
  • All other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Associate's Degree in a mechanical discipline, And 1 year experience in a mechanical or heavy equipment field; Or
  • High School Diploma/GED And 3 years experience in a mechanical or heavy equipment field; Or
  • Prior military service for at least one enlistment as documented on DD Form 214, And 2 years experience in a mechanical or heavy equipment field. 
  • A certificate of completion from a vocational trade institution in a mechanical field is equivalent to 1 year of mechanical experience.
  • Experience must include at least 1 year in a power plant or other process controlled environment including oil/gas/chemical refining and/or process or manufacturing.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • May be required to work non-standard work schedules and be available to Team, as needed.
  • May be required to travel.
  • May be required to work at heights up to and exceeding thirty (30) feet, underground and in confined spaces.
  • May be exposed to extreme conditions and inclement weather.
  • Required to supervise a Team which includes supervision, crews and/or contractors.

SPECIAL SAFETY REQUIREMENTS

  • The extraction, compression, processing, manufacturing, handling, packaging, storage, disposal, treatment or transport of potentially volatile, flammable, combustible materials, elements, chemicals or any other highly regulated component;
  • The operation, maintenance or oversight of critical services and infrastructure including but not limited to, electric utilities, power generation or distribution;

  • Demonstrate ability to perform Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO) qualification in Fuel Supply systems.

  • Demonstrated ability to use common purpose hand tools and other materials of various craft trades.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision, following approved work methods and standard testing practices.
  • Computer skills with knowledge of Outlook email and ability to learn work management systems (i.e.
  • SAP/PM).
  • Proficiently use SAP/PM including notifications and work order management.
  • Demonstrated ability to adjust and adapt across varied working conditions and evolving business needs.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of safety requirements and the use of personal protective equipment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of basic math.
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and familiarity working with mechanical equipment (e.g., pumps, electric motors, air compressors, valves, welding, fabrication, construction, pipefitting, etc.) and heavy equipment (e.g., D9 dozer or above, large tractors, etc.).
