JOB SUMMARY

Maintains, calibrates and troubleshoots power plant control systems, Motor Control Centers, Switch Gears, Transformers, etc. in support of efficient generation of power under varying conditions.

LEVEL OF RESPONSIBILITY

• Complex responsibilities related to primary focus of job area. Uses best practices and in-depth business knowledge to solve complex problems and improve products or services. May adapt procedures, processes and techniques to meet the more complex requirements of position.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Provide complex AC/DC electrical system maintenance and troubleshooting for voltages up to 18KV.

• Completes and publishes calibration and testing reports for documentation purposes.

• Serves as a technical resource to operations personnel and lower technician positions.

• All other duties as assigned.

• Direct, plan and conduct assignments of a complex nature serving in a lead role.

• Schedules and coordinates daily activities with peer operations personnel and is able to negotiate scheduling conflicts.

• Perform required testing of various safety systems such as ESD, fire detection and gas detection systems.

• Provide detailed troubleshooting and programming modifications for Programmable Logic Control/Distributed Control Systems and HMI systems.

• Directs activities of ICE contractors and vendors.

• Performs complex maintenance, configuration and calibration of process and safety instrumentation utilized in the multitude of processes involved in electrical generation.

• Serves as a mentor and assists with training entry level technicians.

REQUIREMENTS

• Associate's Degree and 5 years experience in Electrical & Controls/Industrial Controls; Or

• High School Diploma/GED and 7 years experience in Electrical & Controls/Industrial Controls; Or

• Prior military experience for at least one enlistment as documented on DD Form 214 and 6 years experience in Electrical & Controls/Industrial Controls.

• A certificate of completion from a vocational trade institution in an Electrical & Controls/Industrial Controls field is equivalent to 1 year of Electrical & Controls/Industrial Controls experience.

• Experience must include 3 years Electrical & Controls/Industrial Controls experience in a power plant or other process controlled environment including oil/gas/chemical refining and/or processing or manufacturing.

WORKING CONDITIONS

• May be required to cross-train in various crafts and operation departments at various times of the year.

• May work under hazardous conditions where physical danger exists due to mechanical equipment.

• May be exposed to extreme conditions and inclement weather.

• Required to work in a multi-craft crew including Mechanics, Electricians, Insulators, Instrument & Control Technicians, and Machinist who work together to support the operations of the plant.

• May require travel.

• May be required to work at heights up to and exceeding thirty (30) feet, underground and in confined spaces.

• May be required to work overtime and weekends and holidays.

• May be required to work non-standard work schedules to include on-call and call-outs.

• Advanced knowledge of fundamental instrumentation and electrical concepts.

• Ability to read and interpret advanced electrical and control drawings.

• Demonstrated mechanical aptitude in the use of hand tools.

• Demonstrated ability to take on additional responsibility.

• Advanced knowledge of maintenance, testing, installation and repair of most types of instrumentation and electrical components.

• Strong ability to communicate with individuals at various levels throughout the organization.

• Basic computer skills using MS Office.

• Advanced knowledge of Programmable Logic Controllers/Distributed Control Systems and Human Machine Interface equipment and the ability to make significant programming changes under engineering guidance.
