JOB SUMMARY

Responsible for the day to day operations, maintenance, and troubleshooting of the Power Generation facility to include equipment such as pumps, fans, compressors, filters, water treatment systems, combustion turbines, and generators.

LEVEL OF RESPONSIBILITY

  • Responsibilities are varied and complex. Often works outside area of assigned duties. Applies advanced skills in multiple areas. Resolves complex issues which impact business operations both inside and outside own department. Makes unreviewed decisions related to the area of responsibilities. Opinions carry significant weight in policy and strategy decisions.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Primary duty to operate the plant from the Control Room and Auxiliaries, perform all facets of plant maintenance both electrical and mechanical, without supervision.
  • Acts as Operating Authority.
  • Acts as a lead and fills in upper management as needed.
  • Acts as subject matter expert and coaches and mentors less experienced members in their training and development.
  • Directs activities of contractors and vendors, as needed.
  • Provides technical management for Plant projects.
  • Evaluates project progress and manpower performance (internal and external) and reports to supervisor and/or project manager.
  • Provides expert feedback and is an active participant in the RCM (Reliability Centered Maintenance) process.
  • Monitors, operates and checks equipment.
  • Identifies abnormal equipment operations.
  • Takes corrective action and/or initiates requests for equipment repair.
  • Monitors, analyzes and performs water chemistry tests.
  • Keeps logs, records data and verbally communicates plant conditions.
  • Utilizes SAP/PM system for equipment history and verification of work performed.
  • Creates templates and executes clearance procedures.
  • Follows all safety and environmental rules and regulations.
  • Repairs, inspects and maintains plant auxiliaries, turbine/generator auxiliaries, also fuel supply equipment and auxiliaries to include the CEMS system.
  • Performs general craft tasks, operates various industrial equipment, and uses power hand tools.
  • Reads and interprets drawings and prints.
  • Continually seeks process improvement to save cost and increase efficiency.
  • Provides technical management for I&C projects.
  • Evaluates project progress and manpower performance (internal and external) and report to supervisor and/or project manager.
  • Provides technical management for PLC/DCS projects.
  • Provides direction and oversight to automation contractors as needed.
  • Develops testing procedures and test forms to be used for process instruments and various safety systems to be used for PM and/or compliance.
  • Routinely makes technical decisions concerning the maintenance and repair of critical instrument electrical systems such as DCS, PLC, and field devices, motors, cables, SWGR and MCCs.
  • Serves as a technical resource to operations personnel and lower technician positions.
  • Assists in or provide the technical management of new and existing assets as directed by supervisor.
  • Designs and installs new equipment and system modifications.
  • Actively participates in budget preparation.
  • Assists in maintaining and controlling spare parts inventory.
  • Maintains various databases and effectively uses standard software packages.
  • Effectively and efficiently troubleshoots and maintains all AC/DC control circuits and components.
  • Reads, interprets, and utilizes all plant drawings to perform daily operations and maintenance activities.
  • All other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Associate's Degree in a mechanical or technical discipline and 7 years experience in a mechanical or technical field; Or
  • High School Diploma/GED and 9 years experience in a mechanical or technical field; Or
  • High School Diploma/GED and prior military experience for at least one enlistment as documented on DD Form 214 and 8 years experience in a mechanical or technical field; Or
  • High School Diploma/GED and 3 Direct plant experience at the same Power Plant with 1 of those years being Control Room Operator experience and approval of Plant Management.
  • A certificate of completion from a vocational trade institution in a mechanical or technical field is equivalent to 1 year of mechanical or technical experience.
  • Experience must include 5 years experience in a power plant or other process controlled environment including oil/gas/chemical refining and/or processing or manufacturing.

  • Experience with GE 7FA Turbines
  • GE MarkVI Experience
  • Proecure Development
  • 10 years Combined Cycle Experience

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • May work under hazardous conditions where physical danger exists due to mechanical equipment.
  • May be required to work overtime and weekends and holidays.
  • May be required to work non-standard work schedules to include on-call and call-outs.
  • May require travel.
  • May be required to lift fifty (50) pounds or more.
  • May be required to work at heights up to and exceeding thirty (30) feet, underground and in confined spaces.
  • May be exposed to extreme conditions and inclement weather.
  • Obtain or maintain obtain required certifications.
  • May be required to complete training Process.
